FAQ

What dogs or cats cannot board at your facility?

We do not allow:

  • Intact dogs or cats over the age of one year

  • Dogs or cats on injectable insulin (or any other injectable medications)

  • Dogs or cats currently on chemo

  • Human aggressive dogs or cats

  • Dogs or cats with contagious illnesses such as Herpes, Parvo, FIV etc...

  • Pets with an illness or disability that may create extra risk at our facility

  • Any animals that we feel need accommodations that we cannot make at our facility

We reserve the right to refuse any dog or cat that we feel isn't a good fit for our facility or would create substantial risk to the animal or staff while boarding with us. Here at BBI, we want everyone to be safe, happy, and well taken care of.

What do I need to bring for my pet(s)?

Please feel free to bring:

  • Toys

  • Beds

  • Clothing or items that smell like home

  • Food stands

  • Treats

  • Food (wet, dry, dehydrated, or raw)

  • Medication in the original bottle (with a prescription)

  • Updated vaccine records

  • A contract (if you haven't already filled out a 2019 contract)

  • Anything else that will make them feel more comfortable

Please don't bring:

  • Medication in a bag (without a prescription)

How does feeding work for my pet?

Typically, most animals in the facility are fed twice a day. Breakfast is usually distributed between 8:30 am and 9:00 am. For those pets who have a midday feeding, we feed lunch between 11:30 am and 12:00 pm for not additional cost. Dinner is usually served between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm. All of our kiddos  get fed early for dinner so we have time to monitor them. We want to make sure there are no complications associated with feeding and to give them time to digest before they go outside to play again. If your pet has feedings that fall outside of these times, please talk to our office staff and we can discuss specific accommodations. We accommodate all different types of food, including raw food, wet food, dry food, added veggies, cheese, lunch meat, treats, etc. If your dog needs to have their food or water elevated, let us know and we will make sure to use one of our food stand.

How often will my dog(s) go outside when boarding?

All of our commingled boarding groups go outside a minimum of 4 times a day for at least 30 minutes. If we have extra time throughout the day, we will try to give them as much outside time as possible (up to 45 minutes to an hour 4 times a day). For those furry friends who either prefer to be separate from our other dogs or have medical restrictions, they will go out for the same amount of time independently with a staff member. These dogs will either go outside into one of our yards for playtime or go on a wonderful walk with one of our kennel employees based on the pet's preference and ability.

If you don't feel that this is not enough exercise for your extra crazy pooch, then we also offer Meadow Walks. Meadow Walks are an add-on that you can pay extra for to get your pet an extra 15 or 30 minute walk.

How do I get my dog into Big Dog Daycare?

Due to the large demand for doggie daycare, our big dog daycare program is currently booked. If you would like to try and get into big dog daycare, please give us all of your information and we will add you to the waitlist. As soon as we have space available, we will start to call people off of the waitlist. When we call people off of the waitlist, we start with those individuals who have been waitlisted for the longest amount of time. We thank you very much for your patience and commitment to our facility.

Do my pets really need all these vaccines?

Yes, your pets do need these vaccinations. We are willing to accept VALID vaccination exemption forms written and signed by a licensed veterinary for medical reasons only. Outside of that, for your pets' safety, they need to have updated shots. If you pet is not up to date on their vaccines, they are at a higher risk of contracting anything that may come through our facility. The vaccine for Canine Influenza is our newest vaccine requirement. Both strains of CIV have been found in Colorado and the virus is beginning to spread more and more across the states. We are attempting to be proactive and protect your dogs before anything happens.

How soon do I need to call for a major holiday?

We book out for major holidays 4 to 6 MONTHS in advance. If you need to have boarding for the holidays, please call us as soon as you know your dates. We have a limited amount of space in our facility and holidays are a first come, first serve basis. For weekends during the summer, we book up 4 to 6 WEEKS in advance, so please make sure you are calling early to be able to get in. All holiday reservations need to have a NON-REFUNDABLE 50% of stay deposit put down in order to hold that space for you.

What is the minimum age requirement for pets?

There is no specific age cut off for dogs in our facility. For any pet to be boarded or come to daycare in our facility they must be up to date on all of their required vaccines. For some dogs, this can be as early as 4 months of age or as late as 6 months of age. Once your pets have ALL of their vaccines up to date, they can come to our facility for boarding. All canine pets are required to have all courses of Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella, and Canine Influenza.

Do you take aggressive dogs?

We do not allow human aggressive animals, dogs or cats, in our facility. We do have the ability to accommodate certain dogs with behavioral problems. All dogs that cannot commingle in our socialized play group are required to complete a trial day in our facility to make sure that they are a good fit for our facility. We reserve the right to deny any dog that we feel creates a safety risk to our staff or the dog. If we do accept your dog, then there is an additional $18 fee per night to exercise your pet independently from group.

Do you take intact pets?

We will allow intact dogs up to the age of 1 year in our facility. Pets who are intact can commingle in our play group until the age of 6 months. Intact pets between 6 months and 1 year can come to our facility, but must be done independently from group. These dogs are also subject to the $15 fee per night to do them independently from group. We do NOT accept intact females who are going into heat OR are actively in heat regardless of age.

Can I pick up my pets from boarding after hours?

What time do you charge for the next day?

Our system automatically charges for the next day at 12:00 PM everyday of the week. If you pick up past this time, you will be charged for an additional $25. You are charged for the night of drop-off regardless of what time that you drop-off your pets.

Do you offer extra walks for boarding stays?

We do offer extra walks that can be added to any dog's stay. The cost is $15 for 15 minutes or $25 for 30 minutes. Weather depending, we can either walk your pet(s) to Elk Meadow or down the trail towards Stage Coach. All extra let outs or walks are subject to additional fees. See our Boarding tab for all the extra services we offer during your furry friend's stay.

Do you charge extra for medications?

All medications are included in the cost of boarding. We DO NOT accept any pet with injectable insulin or that is currently on chemotherapy. All medications prescribed by a vet must have the prescription bottle for us to reference. As long as we have a signed contract, we can administer medications not prescribed by a vet, such as Pepcid, Benadryl, Glucosamine, Vitamin Supplements, etc. For more information, please read our detailed procedure for meds in our Official Contract.

How soon do I need to cancel my reservations?

For daycare, we require cancellations by close the business day before your reservation. If you do not cancel before that time, you will be charged for that day of daycare. For holiday reservations, you must cancel 21 days before the date of drop-off to have your deposit credited. If you cancel within 21 days of drop-off, your deposit is forfeited. For busy summer weekends we need at least 7 days of notice to cancel any reservation. We request that all our clients cancel their reservations as soon as possible to allow us time to fill that space. Please read our Official Contract for more information related to our cancellation and no-show policies.

Do cats get any exercise time?

For our furry feline friends, we have plenty of toys for them to choose from from balls with bells, catnip toys, stringy things and crinkle toys. We give every cat as much time out of their condo as possible. The cats are rotated out throughout the day and have access to a wonderful indoor space with a fireplace and windows for viewing the yards and hustle and bustle of the outside world. If you cat prefers alone time and doesn't seem to enjoy interaction with people, then we attempt to make them as comfortable as possible. Sometimes, the happiest place for an anxious kitty is in their condo where they feel safe, contained and in control. We will always watch your cat and modify the care we are giving to make sure they are as comfortable as possible while they are away from home.
